e completely renovated it last year, leaving interesting architectural details. I'd characterize the space as clean, airy, colorful, and lofted. Please click on photos to enlarge.
Here, in the dining area, you get a sense that the house is made up of two wings. A new addition was added directly onto the original 1920s house. The clapboard siding of the outside of the old house shows on the inside of the new!
You can see that there's a window (with guard) and, if you look closely, the cedar roof. We kept these architectural details, but did things like re-roofed with cedar shingles. It smells great!

This is the livingroom. There's a gas stove in the corner for extra coziness. (We also have central heating for the winter.) Many large windows let in treefiltered light and mountain breezes throughout the summer. There's a pullout couch in here, plus a TV with DVD -- but TV addicts be warned: there's no TV reception. We also provide free hi-speed internet.
The main bedroom is in the loft above the living room. Instead of guard rails, we built in cabinets with drawers, giving the room a secure feeling, as well as lots of storage space. We love how the windows look out onto the dreamy treetops. There's another bedroom in the old building, above the kitchen. It has a queen bed and a desk. A few steps up is a meditation room/library.

The kitchen is completely renovated, though part of the old building.
All appliances are new: refrigerator, gas stove and oven, microwave oven, toaster (no dishwasher: sorry!). We supply the basic pots and pans for cooking. There's ample shelving and a large butcher block cutting prep area. We put in comfy cork floors. Here's another view of the dining area. This small table, by the way, unfolds to seat as many as eight people. There's open storage under the steps (next to a closet) where we store extra chairs.

Although surrounded by nature, the cottage is just 3 miles from the Village, and minutes from longer hikes, lakes, swimming holes, playgrounds, soccer fields. We're just 1/2 hour from great skiing. There's a Saturday reading hour at the Library and lots of activities for kids -- plus yoga, art, music, yard sales, horseback riding, and renowned Hudson Valley restaurants. Woodstock and the house are 2 - 2.5 hours drive from NYC.
